Rom's quest leads him to Indonesia's Komodo Island, where he sees a wild Komodo dragon for the first time. When one chases after him, he's forced to beat a hasty retreat: if it catches him, Rom could become lunch. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/the-wolf-that-changed-america/introduction/4260/ In 1893, a bounty hunter named Ernest Thompson Seton journeyed to the untamed canyons of New Mexico on a mission to kill a dangerous outlaw. Feared by ranchers throughout the region, the outlaw wasnt a pistol-packing cowboy or train-robbing bandit. The outlaw was a wolf. Lobo, as locals simply called him, was the legendary leader of a band of cattle-killing wolves that had been terrorizing cattle ranchers and their livestock. It was up to Seton to exterminate this super-wolf. The ensuing battle of wits between wolf and man would spark a real-life wilderness drama, the outcome of which would leave a lasting effect on a new and growing movement in America: wilderness preservation.

Started in 1994, the Wolf Project has taken advantage of the visibility of Yellowstones wolves to explore wolf population dynamics. Of particular interest is how wolves interact with prey and scavenger populations in the park. Smith hopes that Wolf Project research can help replace common misconceptions about wolves with factual information.

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/clever-monkeys/introduction/3946/ When monkeys left the forest and began living in open grasslands, they had to adapt. Baboons, for example, became more aggressive and predatory. Baboons will move around in groups of about 80 individuals for defense. Often, the larger males will go on offense as well -- chasing away predators or taking down a young gazelle.

New Episode Premieres Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 8 p.m. on PBS http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/clever-monkeys/introduction/3946/ Just how smart are monkeys? Their innate curiosity leads them to try new things, but it’s their culture — the passing of information from one generation to the next — that teaches them much of what they know. From tiny pygmy marmoset in South America to aggressive baboons of Africa and compassionate toque macaques in Sri Lanka, “Clever Monkeys” challenges many ideas about what is purely “human.”
